Description:
Audition Notice – Rogue Artists Ensemble’s
‘The Tragical Comedy, or Comical Tragedy of Mr. Punch’ Equity-waver.

Adapted from the best-selling graphic novel by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean, Mr. Punch is a dark fable in which the innocence of childhood and the pain of adulthood collide in the oft-fragmented recesses of memory. The man's memories of his boyhood at his grandfather's seaside arcade are full of talking badgers, crocodiles, car accidents, mermaids, and murder...or could that just have been the Punch and Judy show?
Variety Magazine called Mr. Punch “…a feast for the senses."
“...triumphantly mixes traditional puppeteering, shadow puppets, masks, video projections and more into a thriving whole.” -- Backstage West
WHO: Based on the graphic novel by author Neil Gaiman and illustrator Dave McKean(Gaiman wrote the screenplay for the recent film Beowolf, Gaiman and McKean worked together to create The Sandman comics ,Henson Pictures' MIRRORMASK and the upcoming film adaptation of their book Coraline)

The Boy (seeking to double cast) – look age 8 – 12, central character, small build/ height, able to play a wide range of emotions, athletic.
The character of the Boy is a large part of the play, is the emotional core, and it is through his eyes that the story unfolds. We are looking for two boys that can be double cast (although could be younger/ older) 8-12, not too tall yet, athletic, can learn a British accent and able to play a wide range of emotions. The ideal person for this role, would not so much a child TV type actor, but more just a really interesting and deep thinking kid who would love to have a great experience and has done some performing in theater. It’s a great opportunity for a young actor who enjoys comics, scary stories, and being in front of a live audience!
Swatchell –a puppet-showman, comical, 50-60s; puppet, mime, or mask experience required.

Morton – 40-60’s, character role, menacing hunchback. The Boy’s uncle.
